Melissa Westphal brings more than 15 years of experience in journalism and communications to Chartwell Agency. She worked 12 years as a reporter at the Rockford Register Star, where she covered local, entertainment and feature news, and specialized in the health care beat for nearly five years.
Westphal previously worked as a Writer/Communications Specialist at Rosecrance, where she wrote unique content for internal and external publications, the Web and social media; edited company materials and communications; worked as the media liaison in multiple markets; and wrote and managed the production of the agency’s 100th anniversary book in 2016.
She graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2002. Westphal participated in the 2016 Rockford Chamber of Commerce Rockford Leadership Alliance program and serves as a board member for NAMI Northern Illinois. She also is involved with the Winnebago County Mental Health Advisory Committee, and she previously served as a board member for the Rockford Rage Women’s Roller Derby League.
