Chicago Rockford International Airport Confirmed its Largest Year in Cargo to Date

Thursday, March 1, 2018

The Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) released its annual cargo statistics for 2017.  RFD saw a 50 percent year-over-year increase in landed cargo weight and confirmed its largest year in cargo to date. Nearly 1.4 billion pounds of cargo traveled through RFD.

Cargo Year-To-Date Statistics

January – December 2017 – 1,381,654,780 lbs. or 626,714,496 Kilos

January – December 2016 –    922,690,000 lbs. or 418,529,438 Kilos

The increases in cargo numbers are a result of UPS, ABX and ATI increasing their day-to-day and seasonal operations through RFD this year. Nearly 2,300 new jobs were created to support these enhanced operations – one of the largest job growth and economic impact figures the Rockford region has seen in years. With so many open positions to fill, the airport hosted a job fair in January to support its tenants’ hiring needs.
