Black Friday and Cyber Monday – Be Prepared to Ramp Up Your Digital Marketing

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

As the holidays roll around, many businesses want to drive sales by offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and incentives. Although nothing motivates shoppers more than a good deal, if you want to win over new and existing customers, you’ll need to get creative with your digital marketing.

In 2016, Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday all set records for online sales and the shift to online buying during the holidays is going to continue for 2017 and beyond. Do you have a strong digital marketing strategy in place? Here are a few digital marketing tips to help your organization stand out from the pack:

  • Start early
  • Use visual content
  • Try retargeting
  • Add a dash of humor

Start Early: One of themost important success factors is launching Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions at the right time. Equally as important to timing is targeting. Identify your target audience and develop special promotions that will appeal to this demographic. Consumers typically start researching sales up to three weeks in advance, so there’s no time like the present to get started!

Develop a social media campaign that encourages users to visit your page early and often to find the latest deals and special promotions. Encourage followers to share the deals on their pages to promote engagement. Maximize exposure by boosting the post to a targeted group of Facebook or Instagram users.

Use Visual Content: Visual content is nothing new in the marketing world, but it is more important than ever. Visual content has more “sticking” power with audiences than text-only content. Include infographics, memes, photography and videos whenever possible.

When people hear information, they’re likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later.

Live videos are a relatively new way to market to consumers, and add a human element to your brand so they don’t feel as though they are being “sold to.”

Try Retargeting: Use retargeting ads to get your messaging to those who visited your site recently. While some consumers are still taken back by seeing ads “follow” them across the web, retargeting is very effective because it gets your message in front of the people who are most likely to be attracted to it and those who are further along in the sales cycle.

This is a great opportunity to show your customers how well you know them with personalized advertisements during the holidays. With audience targeting, you can place banner ads right in front of the right audience, virtually anywhere online.

Add a Dash of Humor: Using humor can be a great way to cut through the noise and make your Black Friday and Cyber Monday messaging stand out. Attract attention with the use of humorous social media graphics, clever promotional codes or catchy email subject line titles.

Before you dive into a digital marketing campaign, start by considering your messaging and how you want to promote your business. Select the digital platforms that work best for your business, and create a strategy that will appeal to your target audience. By starting early, using visual content, including retargeting ads and adding a dash of humor, your Black Friday and Cyber Monday digital campaign is sure to help you cut through the noise!
